Where we work

The Book bus operates in Africa, Asia and South America

The Book Bus brings the joy of reading to children in Africa, Asia and South America. School populations in these regions are growing steadily but often the supply of teachers and facilities cannot keep up with the demand for education. This means that child literacy rates are actually falling in many countries.

The Book Bus in Africa

The Book Bus began working in Zambia in 2008 with projects now in Livingstone, Kitwe and South Luangwa. Our local teams run 2 permanent community libraries in Livingstone and we operate reading support and literacy schemes in Kitwe in the north of the country and Mfuwe in the Eastern region. Every week we work with more than 1000 children to help them engage in the wonderful world of books.

The Book Bus has been working in Malawi since 2010. We are currently based about 25 kms north of Mangochi near the great Lake Malawi. Our local teams work with 4 schools and we run the only community library in the district. We also run reading and literacy workshops with schools at Lake Malawi in conjunction with the Lake of Stars Festival.
